Trinity Boys, Lutheran North Girls Seek Class 3, District 6 Hoops Top Seeds

Lutheran north HS logotrinity catholic HS logo   Trinity Catholic High School Boys Basketball and Lutheran High School North Girls Basketball are looking to go to Class Three, District Five, Feb. 17-24 at Duchesne High School in St. Charles with the top seeds in mind.

Trinity Boys had a 16-3 record when the Titans hosted Pattonville Feb. 5, then visited North Tech Feb. 6. The Titans had a 12-game losing streak before losing 75-73 at home Jan .25 to Duchesne in a rematch of the Mary Institute Country Day School Holiday Invitational title game won by Trinity.

Lutheran North Girls had a 17-3 record when the Crusaders visited Clayton Feb. 6. Lutheran North was 6-2 in January losing 70-48 at Whitfield Jan. 9 and to 38-35 Metro Jam. 26 in the Villa Duchesne Queen of Hearts Tournament semifinal, as the Crusaders too third place. Lutheran North hammered Class Five Hazelwood West 60-17 on Jan. 30.

Before Districts Trinity Boys visits Cardinal Ritter Friday, Feb. 9, 8 p.m., then hosts O’Fallon Christian Feb. 16, 6:45, in Archdiocesan Athletic Association Small Division Games.

Lutheran North Girls visits Metro League rival Principia Friday at 5:45, then hosts McCluer (Feb. 12) and Metro League rival John Burroughs (Feb. 15) in 5:30 games other Boys and Girls teams in Class Three, District Six include North Tech, McCluer South-Berkeley, Northwest Academy of Law, Orchard Farm and Sumner.

   GIRLS SWIMMING — Qualifying for state, Feb. 15-17 at the St. Peters’ Rec-Plex, ended Feb. 7 and it looks like Incarnate Word Academy could be sending two swimmers and three relay teams to Class One State as of Feb. 4. So far sophomore Ellie Wehrmann appears to qualify Feb.15-16 in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:52.43-Jan. 20) and the 100-yard Backstroke (1:00.11-Dec. 2, 2017) while junior Emily Schroeder appears to qualify in to 100-yard Freestyle (55 seconds- Jan. 13) and the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:13.92-Jan. 13).

Meanwhile the 200-yard Medley Relay (2:01.87-Jan. 10), 200-yard Freestyle Relay (1:51.69-Jan. 8) and the 400-yard Freestyle (4:04.86-Jan. 22) could be state bound.

Class Two competes Feb. 16-17 but area schools had through the Feb.7 finals of the Suburban XII Conference Championships. Prior to Feb. 6 Hazelwood Central junior Amanda Hei was in position to qualify for the 100-yard Butterfly (1:01.46-Jan. 20) and the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:11.40-Jan. 20) while Hazelwood West Freshman Amaani Hanin appears to qualify in the Breaststroke (1:11.67-Dec. 13, 2017). In addition, the Hazelwood West 200-yard Freestyle Relay (1:52.91-Jan. 26) could qualify.

   WRESTLING — Feb. 9-10 Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood West and McCluer North are in Class Four, District Two at Francis Howell High, Hazelwood East and McCluer are in Class Three, District Two at Hannibal and McCluer South-Berkeley is in Class Two, District Two at Mexico. The top four finishers, in each of the 14 weight classes, advance to State, Feb. 15-17 Mizzou Arena, University of Missouri, Columbia.
