Lutheran North Girls Hoops Takes 7-1 Record To St. Dominic Tournament

Coming off a 23-9 season and a third-place finish in Missouri Class Three State in 2016-17, Lutheran High School North Girls Basketball is looking to looking to return to the State Tournament in hopes of winning their first state tournament, 15th overall at LHSN.
So far this season Lutheran North is 7-1, which includes winning the season-opening Lutheran St. Charles County Tournament. Four of their wins are against teams that have only one loss including two in the Lutheran St. Charles Tournament — Francis Howell Central (59-48) and Metro League rival Mary Institute-Country Day School (61-60) — as well as Ritenour (65-45) and Park Hills Central (prior to Dec 14, 47-45). The Crusaders have also defeated Wentzville-Timberland (60-41) and McCluer South-Berkeley (62-41) and won their Metro League opener over Westminster Christian Academy (56-41).
The only loss is 69-29 to defending two-time Missouri Class Three State Champion Strafford, which defeated the Crusaders in last season’s semifinal (80-47).
Lutheran North is in the middle of a 12-day break before playing in the Dec 27-29 St. Dominic Tournament. The Crusaders, which last year finished third, play the Dec. 27 opener at 9 a.m. against St. Charles West. Also at the St. Dominic Tourney is North Tech, against Francis Howell Central Dec. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY, defending Class Four State Champions would like to add on to their Missouri State High School Activities Association record of eight titles and the Visitation Christmas Tournament record of 12. The Visitation Tournament begins Saturday, Dec. 23, and continues Dec. 26-28.
IWA has a Metro Women’s Athletic Association win over Cor Jesu (74-45) and non-conference wins over Ladue Horton Watkins (75-44), Regina (63-58) and former MWAA rival Villa Duchesne (62-20) IWA has losses to Miami Country Day (62-32) and Paul VI (Virginia – 65-47).
IWA closes out the first day of the Visitation Tournament Saturday with an 8:30 game against MWAA rival Ursuline. Among other first round games are Hazelwood Central against St. Joseph’s Academy (11:30 a.m.), last year’s Viz Tourney runner up and defending Missouri Class Five State Champion Kirkwood against the host Vivettes (10 a.m.) and new addition Edwardsville, Illinois High School Association Class 4A runner up, against Parkway South (1 p.m.).
Marissa Warren has scored 13.6 points per game while making 19 assists and 21 steals. Rickie Woltman made 78.6 percent of her free throws while making 30 rebounds and blocking five shots. Tyler Flowers has shot 73.3 percent from inside the three-point arc while Nakayla Jackson-Morris is shooting nearly 54 percent from three-point range.
