Rams Have Got Me Interesting in Pro Football Once Again
by Randy Gardner
I am going to pick up where I left off last week, How about those Rams? At 9-3, I think they really have something. I’m finding myself more and more rooting for them to win.
This past week I was on the fence though as they played the Arizona Cardinals and I am a still big fan of them also. Why, you might ask? Many reasons, let’s make a list. Kurt Warner, Aneas Williams, Larry Fitzgerald,
Quarterback Blaine Gabbert and another friend who has extremely close ties to the organization.
It was fun to sit and watch such a back and forth game.
I think there are many reasons for their success but one big one comes down to coaching. The Rams have the youngest head coach in the league and I think that the players respond to that. Just to watch him on the sidelines with the guys is extremely interesting, He gets the best out of his players. Will the Rams ever become a dynasty, they came close to in the late 90s and early 2000s but fell short and then fell apart. Could they do it again, they could. I just think they are a couple of players away and maybe a couple of Super Bowl wins away– but it could happen.
College Playoffs a Big Plus for the Game
Just to touch on a column that I wrote about 20 years ago, then 15 years ago and then 10 years ago. The NCAA finally have gone to that college football playoff setup instead of the ranking setup and look how it has turned out. It is much more exciting at this time of the year now.
I should have trademarked my idea and I could have the Gardner Bowl National Championship game. Just joking. I was just a huge proponent of this and talked about it year after year. Then it finally happened. Everybody wins (except perhaps Ohio State or any team missing out).
The bowls still get sponsored and they actually kind of mean something and all of the big bowl games get the credit that they deserve. It’s good to see the final four teams playing this year on New Year’s Day.
Blues Need to Get Back on Track
They will be okay and the team will regain its composure shortly I hope. It’s a long season, but after seeing the team start off so good it is hard to watch them struggle. You expect them to win every night. Adversity though makes a team stronger. A lesson that my 11 year soccer team found out this past weekend. They were 3-0 on the season and got it handed to them 12-2. so they learned a lesson in humility.
Holiday Thoughts
Finally. if you get the chance to get outside and exercise you better do it quickly, the temps later this wee are going to fall quickly. So for Christmas maybe it’s time to get that treadmill. Not only will you feel better but your overall health will improve. A little exercise can go along way. Plus, you need to lift weights to hang with the holiday shoppers these days. They are serious!
