Lowery Praises Police, Firefighters For Response to St. Sophia Incident

Mayor Robert G. Lowery, Sr. of Florissant said, in a statement, that he is exceptionally proud of the actions of the Florissant Police Department and the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District in responding to an emergency incident at St. Sophia’s Health and Rehabilitation Center on Charbonier last week.

A disgruntled man, a relative of someone living at the home who was reportedly barred from the facility, crashed his car into the facility injuring one resident. The car crashed into the front door of the nursing home and stopped in its lobby before catching fire

The Mayor said that the men and women from these departments “responded quickly, efficiently, and with the highest degree of professionalism as they did their job to secure the scene, and to help those that needed it.”

“This incident could have turned out to be a very tragic one if it was not for these men and women,” the mayor said.

“We are all very saddened that this unfortunate event has occurred and we extend our sincere sympathies to the families that were affected by this incident,” the mayor added.
