New Green Line Tours Through Old Town Florissant Begin Nov. 27

The Gettemeier House will be the first stop on the new Green Line Tour of Florissant this Sunday, Nov. 27, from 1-4 p.m., with a free, guided tour. The Green Line Tour will feature 40 of Old Town’s top historical site and homes.

Historic Florissant, Inc. and Florissant’s Landmark Historic District Commission will co-host an opening day celebration Sunday, Nov. 27 to introduce the new Green Line Tour through Florissant’s Old Town. A green line painted along the Old Town streets guides visitors past many of the landmarks and historically important buildings.

The inspiration for this program came from the original Green Line Tour developed in 1965 by the Florissant Business and Professional Women’s Club. That original tour was much longer, winding through the city and many of the parks. Original maps and newspaper clippings are part of Historic Florissant’s archives and will be displayed at the event.

The public is invited to meet at the Franz Gittemeier House, 1067 Dunn Road between 1-4  p.m. Florissant’s Flert bus will give guests a free ride along the Green Line, with a guide pointing out the sites along the way.

Four tours are available and each ride is expected to take about half an hour. Although reservations are not required, it is advisable to call ahead to assure your seat on the bus of your choice. The bus will leave the Gittemeier House parking lot at 1:15, 2, 2:45 and 3:30. Call Historic Florissant at 921-7055 to make a reservation.

Members of both Historic Florissant and the Landmark Commission will be available at the Gittemeier House to answer your questions about Florissant’s past or the future of the Historic District. Light refreshments will be served throughout the afternoon.
