I’m getting pumped up about the United States Soccer team playing in the finals of the Gold Cup against Jamaica. Actually I am sitting here waiting for the game Tuesday afternoon as I write this column and it will be over by the time you read it.

I was hoping for the United States and Mexico rematch which would have been epic but this game will have to do. Since as you read this, you know the outcome.

But, I will talk about the importance of the U.S. winning this game. I think with a win this will solidify the start of the new era of soccer here in the U.S.

With a coaching change to Bruce Arena many fans were very happy. I was unsure about the change but it has been nothing but positive for the team since the change. I like how he is not afraid of changing players and making adjustments as the game goes on. This is something that was not done before.

I will be curious to see how this all unfolds over the next year and a half as the World Cup approaches in Russia. We are seeing an influx of MLS players making a huge change to the face of United States soccer.

Some Talk Radio is Off Base on Cardinals

1074px-St._Louis_Cardinals_Logo.svg   Where do I even start with the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals, it is unbelievable to me to listen to what people are saying and what the papers are saying. If you listen to the radio talk shows you would think that this team is in last place. I have to ask when is enough enough.

It seems to be very split amongst fans whether Mike Matheny should stay or go. I think the fans should give him the rest of the season to see what happens and then form an opinion. I am a bit discouraged that players are talking out against a few of his changes or should I say non-changes.

I was reading an article about how opposing teams announcers are talking about the horrible fundamental play of this team. I would agree that there are some mistakes here and there, but who do you blame. An errant throw, a half attempt from a pitcher to get to cover first base on a routine play. Yes, these are mistakes that shouldn’t happen but is it the coaches fault or the fault of a lazy player. I am not sure, I would think it is a bit of both in a way.

The coach has to hold players accountable but professional players have to hold themselves accountable. The players these days make way more money than the coach and I sometimes feel that they feel they are above the situation. They have to realize though that the fans expect more out of a player. They are paying good money to see a great effort.

Just morally as a person, I feel that I must give my best effort in every thing I do everyday. I do not feel fulfilled if I don’t. My point to this whole subject is that the season is long, there are a lot of ups and downs. Be patient. Don’t demand a chance before it is really warranted. It might be one we regret of a long time as fans if Matheny goes.

How is that summer nutrition and exercise plan going? I bring it up every year but I always fall a bit short. I do have a great excuse for you to use like I do. Its to hot. Thats always a great excuse. Just joking, no excuses. Get healthy for your family and you. Life will be much more happy for you.
