Many Have Teams Left In Sweet 16 Brackets

BY RANDY GARDNER
First question. How many of you still have teams left in the Big Dance? Believe it or not, I have three schools left as of Tuesday morning. I have talked to a lot of people and they are saying that they have 12 or even 13 teams out of the 16. That is pretty darn good.

Are they sports geniuses or like me just lucky guesses? Are you surprised that Missouri has made it this far? I’m not. The team came up big when they needed to and won the big game, now the teams continue to get harder but one more win will propel them into the elite 8. What a boost it is for the Missouri program under Mike Anderson after only a few years at the helm.

Only a couple of weeks here ’till opening day and the Cards are looking pretty good right now, especially the pitching from Chris Carpenter. We say it every year but we need the pitchers to stay healthy to have a chance. The Blues are hanging in there too as they need a couple of big wins on this road trip to get one of the final playoff spots. This would be the icing on the cake to a moderate season, one that the fans have came out and supported all year long.

Oh, to be in Tiger’s Shoes

How about having the power to command 3 million dollars for just showing up? That is what Tiger Woods is getting just to show up at golf tournament overseas. He doesn’t have to win, he doesn’t have to play good, he just has to show up and he is guaranteed 3 million dollars.

If he wins he even gets more. Doesn’t this make you want to put a golf club in your kids hand and put them out on the course. I will say for myself that I’m stopping today to pick my 4-year-old up some clubs.

Over the past few weeks with the nice weather, I have seen a lot of golfers out on the links smacking it around. Some look like they never took a break for the winter and others look like they haven’t played in their lives. Either way, the game is fun but frustrating at the same time. No matter how good you play one day, the next could be terrible and vice versa. Remember as I do, we are not getting that $3 million to play, not even 3 dollars, we are actually paying to play. So keep it in perspective and remember its’ for fun and recreation and you will have a much better time or at least I do.

Busch at Bristol was Sharp as a Pistol

I know there are a lot of NASCAR fans out there because I hear from you every week. How about the race in Bristol, that was a lot of fun. It is great to see the cars on the small track with speeds up in the low 100’s. Whether you are a Kyle Busch fan or not, with two wins already this year and coming off several wins last year, you have to give him credit and a young, good, aggressive driver. As you look at Bristol it seems like the fans are right on top of the track in a bowl type setting.

It’s got to be loud at that track as even at Gateway which is twice as big, it is really loud. Speaking of Gateway, the NHRA and all of the NASCAR events will be back in full force throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall. As I always tell you, try it once and you will be hooked. I guarantee it!!
