St. Louis County Government, in partnership with the St. Louis County Library, is implementing the Recycled Reads program at four County Government locations. Recycled Reads circulates surplus library materials, encouraging people to read. The County Government locations will only have books and magazines for young people.
“Recycled Reads illustrates a key priority of my administration-investment in our youth,” St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger said. “Research shows that reading at an early age is directly connected to improved performance in school. We look forward to kids and families from across the County participating in this educational program.”
No library card is required to borrow the Recycled Reads materials and there are no fines or due dates. Individuals are asked to return the items whenever they’re finished to any St Louis County Recycled Reads or County Library site. If the child wishes to keep the book, he or she may do so.
Recycled Reads St. Louis County Government locations include:
- St. Louis County Department of Revenue, Street level floor of the Lawrence K. Roos County Government Building, 41 South Central Ave., Clayton, MO
- St. Louis County Circuit Court, “Orders of Protection” area, 106 South Central Ave., Clayton, MO
- St. Louis County Department of Justice Services, Buzz Westfall Justice Center, 100 South Central Ave., Clayton, MO
- St. Louis County Department of Public Heath, Saint Louis County Animal Care & Control Pet Adoption Center, 10521 Baur Blvd., Olivette, MO
“Recycled Reads is a great way to bring library services to people outside of our library buildings and to meet people where they are,” Kristen Sorth, St. Louis County Library Director said. “We’re thrilled to partner with St. Louis County to expand the program so people who might not otherwise have time to read or visit a library can take advantage of this convenient service.”
Recycled Read displays are currently set up at over 60 locations throughout St. Louis County including laundromats, hair/nail salons, health care providers and auto care shops. The program makes reading convenient and accessible for those with busy schedules and limited free time for recreational reading.
