Taste in Ferguson is Sept. 11

4th Annual Taste in Ferguson to Raise Scholarship Money for Ferguson Youth

Featuring foods from more than 20 vendors, the 4th annual Taste in Ferguson will be held Sept. 11, at the Savoy Banquet Center, 119 South Florissant Rd. in Ferguson. Attendees will sample foods from popular restaurants from across the region including Ropers Ribs, Cathy’s Kitchen, The Whistle Stop, Paul’s Market and Starbucks as well as on-site cooking demonstrations, live music, and activities for children. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for deserving students from North St. Louis County. The event will be emceed by St. Louis radio legend Asher Benrubi, better known as “Smash.”

The Taste in Ferguson supports two local scholarship funds: The Robbie McGartland Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Samantha Lipka Memorial Scholarship Fund. The first was established in 2012 at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School, the grade school Robbie attended. The scholarships help offset the tuition cost for families who have children enrolled between kindergarten and 8th grade.

Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $1000 per family. The Samantha Lipka Scholarship Fund started in 2007 for high school seniors in the Ferguson-Florissant School District.  Over $80,000 in scholarships have been awarded to students following Samantha’s dream of going to college. The previous three Taste in Ferguson events have raised a total of more than $70,000. The Taste in Ferguson has also helped support local youth organizations and camps.

Tickets to the event are $25 each prior to Aug. 28, when they increase to $30. Children under 10 are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at: The I Love Ferguson Store, Whistle Stop Frozen Custard, Robinwood Automotive, Ferguson Farmers Market every Saturday in August, or online at thetasteinferguson.com.
