Hazelwood Central Girls Track,
Trinity Girls Soccer Second Bests

It took until the end of the spring high school sports season, and the end of the 2015-16 prep sports year for the best finishers in state.
Hazelwood Central Girls Track And Field ended up as Class Five State Runner Up to Lee’s Summit West May 28 at Jefferson City High Licklider Track Complex-Adkins Stadium. Hazelwood Central scored 76 points, a team best in a State High School Girls meet, but Lee’s Summit West scored 96.
Trinity Catholic was Class One State Girls Girls Soccer Runner Up after losing June 2 at Swope Soccer Village Championship Field in Kansas City. Trinity lost 1-0 as Saxony Lutheran, who became the first Lutheran school (boys or girls) to win state in 2015, became the first non-Catholic private school to win back-to-back Girls State titles.
Hazelwood Central Girls won their own Last Chance Invite, at Washington University and Ladue Horton Watkins High as well as the Suburban XII Championship, Class Five, District Three and Class Five Sectional Two. State event champions include the Class Five Record-Setting 4×200 Meter Relay, sophomore Deja Ingram winning the 100- and 200-Meter Dashes and freshman Amari Anderson winning the Para Shot Put.
Trinity Girls Soccer finished with a 14-8-2 overall record and 4-2 in the Archdiocesan Athletic Association Small Division, tied for second with Bishop DuBourg and behind AAA Small Champion O’Fallon Christian. Since 2009 the Girls Soccer team had three state runner up finishes and combined with the boys the state runner up total is seven. Freshman Casey Clark scored 18 goals, senior Morgan Clark had 12 assists and senior Jess Eaton had a 0.68 goals against average in 1,522 minutes while limiting 22-1 Saxony Lutheran to just a second-half goal.
McCluer South-Berkeley was the only North County high school to win a state title as the Girls Track and Field team won their fifth state title since 2006. Combined with Berkeley High the Bulldog Ladies won 11 titles and the total combined number of state titles between Berkeley High and McCluer South-Berkeley is 28, most by any North County high school. Breaking down Berkeley High has won 21 state titles, 20 in Boys and Girls Track And Field and one in Football (1987) while McCluer South-Berkeley won seven including two in Boys Track And Field. In Class Three State Track in Jefferson City McCluer South-Berkeley won the Girls 4×400 Meter Relay and the Boys 4×200 Meter Relay.
Hazelwood West, thanks to a Class Five record-setting effort in winning the Boys 4×400 Meter Relay, took home a fourth-place trophy in State Boys Track and Field, their second state trophy overall including a second-place finish in 2000. Senior Isaiah Cole had a Class Five record-setting effort in winning the 400-Meter Dash. Hazelwood West won the Fort Zumwalt West Invitational and Class Five, District Three.
Incarnate Word Academy shared third place in Class Three Girls Soccer following a 0-0 draw with Metro Women’s Athletic Association rival Visitation Academy June 4 at Swop Soccer Village. Incarnate Word lost 5-0 in the June 3 Semifinal to eventual state champion Kansas City Notre Dame De Sion. Last winter Incarnate Word was the only North County high school to take home a state trophy but it was a fourth-place trophy in Class Four Girls Basketball after winning three in a row and four in five years.
Lutheran North Girls Track and Field won the Class Three State Girls 4×100 Meter Relay.
