Women’s Team Always Seems to do Better than Men’s U.S. Soccer Squad
By Randy Gardner
I was so excited about seeing U.S.A. play Columbia last Friday night that I almost stayed home from a camping trip with my family to watch it. I found out the campgrounds had Wi-fi so off I went. Little did I know after a 4-hour drive getting to the campgrounds just in time for kick off that the Wi-fi was not strong enough to play video.
I was really upset and had to watch my phone for score updates. As it flashed 1-0, I became discouraged, then 2-0 and I knew it was over. They eventually went on to lose 2-0 and put themselves in the hole. The U.S. team had been building for the Copa America tournament for months and they get pounded 2-0. So tonight they play Costa Rica, we already know what has happened but if I had to guess I would say that they will win. U team cannot be embarrassed two games in a row, they will basically be out of the tournament with a loss.
The U.S. team plays well when their backs are against the wall. I think the fans will start to rebel if they lose. They have just started to build some momentum and it will all be gone if they get knocked out. On the other hand, the women’s team is on fire as always. They came back to tie Japan in a tough match and then won their last match. I never worry about that team. I just tune in to see how many goals they will score.
For all the naysayers that said that once Abbey Wambach left that the team would fall apart, you were wrong. I think they are even better since they are not so one-dimensional anymore. They are forced to play more of a possession game and that makes them even stronger. Mark my word they will be Summer Olympic Champions once again.
Onto hockey news. Is anyone even paying attention to the Stanley Cup Finals anymore. I can’t find one person that can even tell me the score of the series. It is really funny how hockey fans are just Blues fans, its not like football or baseball where you will watch the World Series or Super Bowl even if your home town team is not in it. Once the Blues are out , hockey in this town is pretty much over.
There is always next year. Just cut the sleeves off of your Blues jersey and wear it all summer. I really think that this Blues team will look totally different next year. A lot of the veterans per say will go and Ken Hitchcock will be forced to deal with developing a lot of the youngsters. In hockey this seems to be the wave every few years with teams. This was the Blues best chance to win the Stanley Cup.
