Pretty Baby Winners & Parade Units Honored

The 2016 Valley of Flowers Festival wrapped up with the announcement of the awards for the winners in the Pretty Baby contest as well as the parade units at the end of the parade Sunday, May 8.
For the Pretty Baby Contest Best Personality category, the winner was Gage Hoelscher. Elijah Robinson won the Popularity award. In both cases, the winners received a gift basket and a certificate.
The parade units were awarded in six categories. First place in the Best Theme, Best Decorated Car, Best Organization and Best Commercial Unit categories received $100 and a certificate and second place was awarded a certificate. For the Best Antique and Best Walking Unit categories, first place winners received $50 and a certificate and second place won a certificate. In addition, all the marching bands and color guards received certificates to acknowledge their participation in the parade.
The James J. Eagan Award is given to the First Place winner in the Best Theme Unit. This year’s award went to the unit for Queen Candidate Maddie Dickson, sponsored by Handyman Hardware. The Second Place award was given to Queen Candidate Claire Jackson, sponsored by Goldkamp Heating & Cooling.
The First Place Best Decorated Car Award went to the car for Queen Candidate Tori Turpin, sponsored by Dooley’s Florist and Gifts. Second Place for car decoration went to Queen Candidate McKenna Morris, sponsored by Korte’s Custom Framing and Antiques.
The unit for Queen Candidate Lily Kostecki, sponsored by VFW Post 4105, took home the First Place Award for Best Organization. Second Place went to SHAPE, the Sacred Heart Young Adult Group.
The Best Commercial Unit First Place winner was the unit for Queen Candidate Kate Wissler, sponsored by Winschel Carpet Service. The unit for Queen Candidate Mia Hutchason, sponsored by Travelink, won Second Place in this category.
The Moolah Motor Patrol (VW – ’63), won First Place for the Best Antique unit, with Queen Candidate Bria Luem, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Duschesne Council, taking Second Place.
The First Place award for Best Walking Unit went to the McCluer North Marching Stars. Second Place was awarded to the Strini School of Dance.
