North Tech Boys Basketball 4-Peats At Lutheran St. Charles County

North Technical Boys Basketball became the first team in school history (opened in 1968) to win a varsity tounament four times and that was done just under a week before Christmas. North Tech won their fourth straight Lutheran High School-St. Charles County Nike Cougar Classic.

The Golden Eagles have won 13 consecutive tournament games at Lutheran dating back to the 2011 seventh-place game. Tyree White has scored an average of 23.3 points per game, made 25 out of 28 free throws and had nine rebounds per game.

North Tech opened with a 73-49 rout of The Principia as Erik Hicks scored 17 points while White added 14 to go along with five assists. North Tech then won 63-50 over Lift For Life Academy Charter, the fourth straight semifinal win as White scored 22 points, making 10 out of 12 free throws, and pulled down 10 defensive rebounds. In the title game North Tech had its largerst margin of victory as the Golden Eagles rolled over Orchard Farm 87-73 with White scoring 34 points, making 11 of 15 shots and 12 of 13 free throws as North Tech shot nearly 55 percent from the field and over 85 percent from the free throw line.

   HAZELWOOD WEST GIRLS — It was a third place finish for Hazelwood West Girls one week before Christmas at the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament. Hazelwood West defeated Fort Zumwalt East 45-40, lost 71-44 to eventual repeat Tournament Champion Lutheran St. Charles County and won 58-54 over Orchard Farm. Lakeita Chappel averaged 21 points per game — scored 28 against Orchard Farm, 18 against Fort Zumwalt East and 17 against Lutheran St. Charles — while Brianna Watkins pulled down 43 rebounds including 18 against Orchard Farm, 13 against Lutheran St. Charles and 12 against Fort Zumwalt East

   HAZELWOOD WEST BOYS rebounded from a first-round 83-72 loss to Northwest Academy of Law to win the Consolation title at the 45th Chaminade Tournament, thanks to wins over Cleveland Naval Jr. ROTC (73-47) and John Burroughs (64-42). Malcolm averaged 21 points per game scoring 26 against Northwest Academy, 20 against John Burroughs and 17 against Cleveland NJROTC.while James Jenette pulled down 29 rebounds in the tournament including 12 against Cleveland NJROTC and 11 against Northwest Academy.

   WRESTLING — HAZELWOOD EAST took fourth place Dec. 19 at the Chaminade Red Devil Invite but had three winners — Fedrick Johnson (106 pounds), Antonio Jenkins Harris (145) and Saaudiq Burns (220). OTHER INDIVUDUAL WINNERS include Lee Russell (126), Hazelwood West at Fort Zumwalt East and Efe Osage (145), McCluer North at Lee’s Summit.
