Tourneys Tip Off Boys Basketball

High School Boys Basketball opens the 2015-16 season with tournaments and shootouts, some of which begins this Thanksgiving week, which also closes the Football season with State Championship games.

The longest running event during Thanksgiving Week is the 63rd St. Francis Borgia Thanksgiving Tournament in Washington, Mo. McCLUER NORTH is going for their third straight title and will be playing in Blue Pool 2. McCluer North played Nov. 23 against Washington, plays Friday, Nov. 27, 7:30 against Soldan International Studies and plays Saturday, Nov. 28, at 12 noon, 4:30 or 6 p.m. against a team from Blue Pool 1 — Cardinal Ritter, now coached by former McCluer North coach Randy Reed, Normandy or Pacific

   NORTH TECHNICAL is in Gold Pool 2, opened Nov. 24 against the Blue Knights, a home school team, plays Thanksgiving night, Thursday, Nov. 26, 6 p.m. against Union and Saturday at 1:30, 3 p.m. or 7:30 against a team from Gold Pool 1 — Host Borgia, Carnahan or Fatima. Last year North Tech took third place.

 HAZELWOOD CENTRAL, Class Five Quarterfinalist last year, will try to repeat at the St. John Vianney Jerry Boeckman Tournament Nov. 30-Dec. 4 but opened the season Nov. 27 in the State Farm Tournament of Champions Shootout at Michigan City, Ind. After competing at Vianney Hazelwood Central plays Dec. 12, 4:30 against Whitfield in the Public/Private Shootout at Duchesne.

   HAZELWOOD WEST opened Nov. 24 against Cleveland Naval Junior ROTC then plays University City Dec. 10, 8:30 in the 16 Webster (Groves) Classic, which continues through Dec. 12 and where West won the opener last year then lost the next two.

   McCLUER will open the season Nov. 30, 8:15 against Whitfield in the Pattonville Tournament, which continues Dec. 2 and ends Dec. 4. After losing the opener last year against St. Louis University High, McCluer rebounded with wins over Maplewood-Richmond Heights and Mary Institute-Country Day School to take consolation honors.

   TRINITY CATHOLIC opened the season Nov. 24 at Lutheran St. Charles County then hosts a four team round-robin tournament with 6:30 games against Metro Nov. 30, Confluence Prep Charter Dec. 2 and defending tournament champion St. Louis Priory Dec. 4. Last year Trinity defeated Metro and Confluence before losing to Priory.

   NORTH COUNTY CHRISTIAN will be in the Winfield Classic and opens the tournament Dec. 1, 5 p.m. against Timberland. Last year North County Christian salvaged a win over Winfield in the seventh-place game after losing to North Technical and Warrenton.

   HAZELWOOD EAST opens the season Nov. 30-Dec. 4 in the Troy-Buchanan Tournament, where they were 1-2 last year.
