Hawthorne Players’ ‘Nunsense’

At Civic Center Theatre

Hawthorne Players will present Dan Goggins’ hit comedy Nunsense on Nov. 6, 7, 13, and 14 at 8 p.m. and on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. in the Florissant Civic Center Theatre, Parker Road and Waterford Drive.  Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for older adults and students and may be reserved by calling the box office at 314-921-5678 or online at www.florissantmo.com.  Call for information on special group rates.

The “non-denominational” comedy tells the story of how the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. They must inter the dearly departed before the health inspector comes and finds the dead nuns in their freezer!

The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the production of Grease.

Director Ken Clark promises that the hilarious show is guaranteed to thaw the coldest hearts. He notes that, “Nunsense pays homage to many of the nun-themed shows that came before it, including the sitcom The Flying Nun, The Trouble With Angels, and Where Angels Go…Trouble Follows. The common theme in all of these stories is that nuns have feelings, needs and aspirations—they are people too. In fact, the convent station wagon driven by Sister Robert Anne probably has a bumper sticker to that effect.”

Hawthorne’s all-star cast features Marilyn Woods, Kimmie Kidd, Leah Rachelle Milton, Tara Hoisington and Stefanie Kluba.
