Despite Cold, Tree-lighting Event a Success

The City of Florissant and Old Town Partners had another successful Christmas in Old Town event and Tree Lighting ceremony this past Saturday to officially start the holiday season.

The activities began at 2 p.m. at City Hall, with Santa, hot chocolate, face painting, cookie decorating, story book reading, crafts by the St. Louis County Library and Mrs. Clause creating balloon art.  The event was well attended despite the very cold weather.

The tree lighting ceremony began at 5:00 with Mayor Schneider wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year on behalf of the Administration, City Council and Judge Dan Boyle. Also in attendance were Chief Tim Lowery, Captain Randy Boden, Captain Sean Fagan and Captain Tim Fagan. Our 2013 Valley of Flowers Queen Kelly Mahaffy and her Court sang some Christmas carols to highlight the festivities and Queen Kelly switched on the lights.
