U.S. Dept. of Education Awards Major Funding to St. Louis Community College

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded St. Louis Community College (SLCC) over $3 million in funding for Student Support Services projects. The funds come from the department’s TRIO program, which provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements and works to motivate students to graduate.

Each award covers 2015 through 2020 and establishes academic and support services at three SLCC campuses:

  • Florissant Valley Campus – $231,103 annually, $1,155,515 total
  • Forest Park Campus – $231,103 annually, $1,155,515 total
  • Meramec Campus – $212,946 annually, $1,064,730 total

Use of the funds is designated for raising the success rate for academically disadvantaged, low-income, and/or first-generation college students who often struggle to stay in college. Among the services provided are academic tutoring, assistance with course selection, help locating student financial aid programs (public and private) and completing aid applications, academic and personal counseling and mentoring programs.
