The Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Advisory Council (LETSAC) has selected Hazelwood Police Officer Scott Schnurbusch 2015 “Officer of the Year” for large police departments. The award will be presented Thursday, July 16, during the LETSAC Conference Awards Banquet at Lodge of Four Seasons at the Lake of the Ozarks.

“I’m very proud of Officer Schnurbusch. This is the most prestigious traffic safety award any Missouri police officer can receive and he is more than deserving. Scott is dedicated to traffic safety and community betterment. Scott is a smart, talented police officer and a model employee, who wears many hats. He is successful in all of his endeavors, handling every assignment professionally and with enthusiasm,” said Sgt. Norman Mars, Hazelwood Police Department’s Traffic Management Team Supervisor.

In addition to serving in many roles within the department, Officer Schnurbusch has enhanced the department’s community outreach efforts. Among his efforts were speaking at schools, conducting impaired driving classes, organizing a bicycle rodeo, and participating in “Safe Night Out” events and a basketball game with minority high school students after the Ferguson unrest.

Officer Schnurbusch has also trained fellow officers in Civil Disturbance Response Training (CDRT) and in conducting DWI checkpoints and impaired driving enforcement. He served on a team of police leaders contributing to a Code 1000 pre-plan for events in Ferguson and has assisted other agencies as needed.
