McCluer Students Dominate Competition in Regional Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge

    McCluer High School students dominated the competition in the 2015 Regional Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge, winning the top three spots.

Destiny Davis was the overall winner, with Jacob Tiemann second and Daija Jackson third.  Top finishers Davis and Tiemann will compete at the national level in New York this October.

Each participant received $100, but Davis got an extra $1000 for her t-shirt business. Tiemann an added $750 for an app for selling shoes, and Jackson $500 for a key that detects if drugs are added to a drink.

Regional competition includes breakout room winners. Destiny Speech of McCluer won her breakout room and Deja Gardner, McCluer’s fifth competitor, placed second.

The entrepreneurship challenge is coordinated by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), sponsored by MasterCard and hosted by Ameren.   “NFTE does a great job supporting me in teaching entrepreneurship to our students,” said Timothy Lakey, McCluer marketing instructor.  “Our students are exposed to mentors from the St. Louis business community who provide one-on-one time to discuss the students’ business plans.”
