A Rap to Spring, And Other Things

A Boomer’s Journal

By Tom Anselm

Tom Anselm pg 2 (run color this tgime)   A quick review of recent columns seems to show

That my tone’s been kinda serious ‘bout stuff, ya know.

So here’s my humble effort to change up these things

As I bring to you a TwentyFifteen Rap to Spring.

If perhaps your favorite color just might be green

Then you’re sure enjoying everything that can be seen,

With trees and grass and dandelions busting out

So vibrantly it makes this old guy wanna shout.

But with that noisy bursting comes a dev’lish dust

That infiltrates the nostrils, creates a brown rust

On ev’ry single nose hair that I still possess

After sneezes rock the room with calls of “Wow…God Bless.”

But we here in The Lou have some healthy distractions,

What with Cardinal baseball and the Blues still in action.

The skater dudes are once again The Playoff Buds,

Let’s hope they aren’t once again The Playoff Duds.

Now Redbird Fever matches the fever called “Hay,”

Both bringing out the tears, but in a different way.

The Clydesdales and players hear the rabid fans’ hollas,

Anheuser beers a-flowin’ … yeah, for ‘leven dolla’s!

Which is why I won’t be spending my limited funds

Watching a bunch of millionaires drive in runs.

The game at this level is a financial shame,

I’ll spend my time and money at the grandkid’s game

Or on the golf course… yeah, here I go once more

Musing ‘’bout a game that I used to abhor,

But now the fairway’s calling to my inner bard

Hoping soon I’m scrawlin’ ‘80’ on my card.

First Communions abound, boys and girls dressed so fine

As they gather to partake of the bread and wine,

That mysteriously takes on a new identity

To pave the Little’s way as they seek eternity.

Add graduations to this list of Spring’s displays

Not to mention teacher’s anticipating end-of-days,

But not before the fun and games we call state testing…

Gotta get through that mess before summer resting.

Spring’s song is a crazy one we’re privileged to sing,

So take the time to savor all the joy it brings.

New sun and trees and flowers, perhaps a new direction…

Achoo…

Think I’m getting me a sinus infection.
