Florissant offers Tire Recycling Day

All Florissant residents are invited to drop off any old, damaged, unused or unwanted tires they may have at a free recycling event on Saturday, March 28 at Bella Fontaine Park, 9567 Bellefontaine Road in North County. People may drop off any tires between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the park.

Co-sponsored by Missouri’s Department of Natural Resources and St. Louis County’s Division of Neighborhood Services (Department of Public Works), the program is designed to allow St. Louis County residents to drop off unwanted tires they may have at no charge. Tires of any size or condition, with or without wheels, will be accepted from residents.

Rather than being dumped in landfills, all such tires will be recycled and processed into fuel for power plants. Recycled tires also can be turned into shock-absorbing playground cover, running tracks and sidewalk tiles.

“This is an excellent opportunity provided by St. Louis County and the State of Missouri for our residents to remove any unwanted, old tires they may have,” said Florissant Mayor Thomas P. Schneider. “Recycling is good for the environment and the price certainly is right at free recycling events such as this.”

Please note that trucking companies and businesses involved in tire sales or recycling may not participate in this program.
