Hawthorne Players: Small Cast Plays Many Roles in

Different Eras in ‘The Dining Room’

The cast of The Dining Room (from l to r): Pat Brueggen, Andee Wolfe, Julian Holt, Colleen Heneghan, John Waller, Margaret O’Dea, Marisa Puller, Cary Steinmetz, and Robert Doyle.

Hawthorne Players of Florissant will present The Dining Room by A.R. Gurney at the Florissant Civic Center Theatre, located at Parker Rd. and Waterford Dr., directed by Lori Renna, opening Nov. 1. This brilliantly conceived play by the creator of Love Letters has nine performers portraying over 50 characters in the room that was once the vital center of family life. Director Lori Renna says, “It is a bit like watching life happen through the windows of different family dining rooms.

The title is deceiving because it is not really about dining rooms, but rather about life that happens while in them. ”Each vignette introduces a new set of people and events, from little boys to stern grandfathers, and from giggling teenage girls to Irish housemaids.” Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2, 8 & 9, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10. Tickets are $18 for regular tickets, $16 for older adults and students, and $12 each for groups of six or more. Call the box office at 314-921-5678 or go to www.HawthornePlayers.com.
