BY JIM WIENERS

Four has been the number for McCluer North Cross Country runner Mary Goldkamp as the senior has just won her fourth straight Class Four Sectional championship last Saturday at Forest Park in St. Louis, one week after winning her fourth straight district championship on her home course.

This Saturday in Jefferson City at the Oak Hills Golf Center Goldkamp is looking to accomplish one thing she has not won, a state title. Goldkamp gets her last shot when she starts her run at 10:40 a.m. but she will have her entire McCluer North team running with her. Last Saturday at Forest Park McCluer North finished tied for fourth with Parkway North (132 each) but McCluer North won the sixth-runner tiebreaker when Anna Weiden took 55th while Parkway North’s sixth, Erica Grajales finished 58th.
Goldkamp’s best finish at state so far has been fifth in 2003. She finished 12th in 2004 and 10th last year.

Pattonville will join McCluer North in competing for the Class Four State team title while Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood West and Incarnate Word Academy will send runners to compete as individuals. Meanwhile Rosati-Kain, whose seven runners finished in the top 12 last Saturday in winning districts at McNair Park in St. Charles, will open the day in the Girls Class Three State race Saturday, 9 a.m. Lutheran North will send two runners to Girls Class Two State Saturday 12:30.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY — Pattonville will represent the Suburban North Conference in team competition this Saturday, 9:40 a.m., in the Class Four Boys race, after finishing fourth (126 points) last Saturday at Forest Park. McCluer North (128) missed out on sending the entire team to state by two points but will join Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West and former Suburban North member Normandy in having runners compete as individuals. Hazelwood East’s Charles Johnson was the area’s highest Class Four runner as he finished seventh.

Lutheran North will compete for the Class Two Boys team title this Saturday at 11:15 after finishing second in districts last Saturday at Spanish Lake Park. Steve Liggins led Lutheran North with a second-place finish last Saturday. McCluer South-Berkeley will send Johnathan Barnett to state to compete in Class Three Boys this Saturday at 10:10 a.m. after finishing seventh last Saturday at McNair Park.

BOYS SWIMMING AND DIVING — With no district meets competitors have until this Saturday to meet standards to qualify for state, which takes place Nov. 10-11 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. For Suburban North competitors the last chance is the Suburban North finals Thursday, 3 p.m. at Bridgeton Community Center.
