Hazelwood Harvestfest is Sept. 13

The Hazelwood Harvestfest, one of the top community events of the year in North County, will be held this Saturday, Sept. 13 at Howdershell Park. The festival begins with a parade departing from Hazelwood City Hall at 9 a.m. to the park.

The parade will feature the Hazelwood West High School Band and the John Ford Highland Pipe Band. The parade theme is “Wonderful World of Sports.” Five cash prizes will be awarded to the best theme decorated parade units. The best viewing is along Town and Country, Holiday, Imperial, and Village Square Drives.

Miss Hazelwood

The Miss Hazelwood coronation ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Emily Daniels, Miss Hazelwood 2007, will crown her replacement. The winner will receive a collection of prizes including a scholarship.
One of the following candidates for Miss Hazelwood will be crowned on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Hazelwood Harvestfest at Howdershell Park. Sponsors are shown if known as of print deadline.

Entertainment

A wide variety of performances featuring local talent is scheduled. The John Ford Highland Pipe Band will perform in the park following their participation in the parade. Ravenmoon will give a concert at 12:15 p.m. A demonstration by the St. Louis Arches gymnastic group will be at 2:30 p.m. The closing act for the day will be Pleasure Groove at 4 p.m.

Children’s Activities

o Petting zoo – 10 a.m.-noon
o Inflatable obstacle course and giant slide – 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
o H2Orchestra – 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
o Pony rides – 1-5 p.m.

Horseshoe tournaments will be held with random draw partnering at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Registration will be accepted prior to each tournament at the pit site. There is no fee to play. Trophies will be awarded to the top finishers.

A used book sale, sponsored by the Hazelwood Community Enrichment Commission, and an arts and crafts show will be held in the park.

The VFW will collect torn or worn American flags for a proper disposal ceremony. The flags will be accepted at the City Services tent.
