Hazelwood Municipal Court Joins Others for 2014 Holiday Amnesty Project

The City of Hazelwood’s Municipal Court will be one of over 60 municipal courts in St. Louis County participating in the 2014 Holiday Amnesty Project, scheduled from December 1st to December 31st. This event is being sponsored by the St. Louis County Municipal Court Improvement Committee (MCIC) and Better Family Life (BFL).

The MCIC is a group of judges, prosecutors, court administrators, public defenders, private attorneys and community leaders whose mission is to improve the municipal courts in St. Louis County. BFL is a 501(c)(3) community development corporation dedicated to the prosperity and growth of the American Family and to promote the stability and self-sufficiency of low- to medium-income individuals and families in the St. Louis region. This same organization sponsors the annual St. Louis Area Amnesty Project, and the Holiday Amnesty Project is patterned after it.

Between December 1st and December 31st, persons with outstanding warrants issued by the City of Hazelwood’s Municipal Court can go to City Hall, 415 Elm Grove Lane, and post a $100 bond. In exchange, all of their warrants in the court will be recalled and they will be given a new court date on which to appear and resolve their cases. Only the person charged can appear at the court office to post the bond and show an ID card.

They can do this during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If the individuals are able to pay their fines and costs, their court cases can be closed out. The goal is to clear up the cases on which people have outstanding warrants.
