Hazelwood Central Diver Clayton Janvrin State’s Sixth-Place Finisher

Hazelwood Central senior diver Clayton Janvrin took home his second state medal in three years by finishing sixth Nov. 8 at the Missouri State High School Activities Association Swimming and Diving Championships at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.

Janvrin scored a total of 378.05 points while the state champion, Lafayette junior Matt McCool, scored 486. Janvrin, who finished fifth in 2012 (378.05), was sixth Nov. 8 after the preliminaries (179.10) and fifth after the semifinals (280.30). Janvrin qualified for state from the beginning of the season in late August and had his best performance of the season (268.30) in a Sept. 15 meet against McCluer North.

Janvrin’s performance netted Hazelwood Central 13 points and a 35th-place finish. Kansas City Rockhurst, with 270 points, won their 11th consecutive State Championship by 98 points over runner up Park Hill (172) while Columbia-Rock Bridge was third (144) and St. Louis University High was fourth (133). The St. Peters Rec-Plex has been hosting State Swimming and Diving since the winter of 1998.

FOOTBALLCBC ended Hazelwood Central’s season Nov. 7 as the Cadets won the Class Six, District Two title 45-0 over the previously unbeaten Hawks, who ended the season at 11-1. A week later, Nov. 14 the 13-0 Cadets rolled over Kirkwood, 55-10 in the Class Six Semifinals and after taking this week off head to the Edward Jones Dome Nov. 29 for a 5:30 game against Kansas City Rockhurst for the state title.

In their road to the Show Me Bowl CBC has outscored four opponents 197-17. Six Cadets contributed to scoring against Hazelwood Central including a pair of first half touchdowns run in by Tre Bryant. After leading Kirkwood 14-10, CBC scored the final 41 points to break the game wide open as Calen Taylor ran for three touchdowns.

LUTHERAN NORTH saw their season end Nov. 15 with a 14-7 loss at Palmyra in the Class Two Quarterfinals. Travis Harvey ran for two Palmyra touchdowns in the first half and a fourth-quarter, fourth-down five-yard pass from Lutheran North senior quarterback Justin Baker was barely out of reach of a receiver as time expired. It snapped a nine-game winning streak for the 11-2 Crusaders.

Lutheran North won the Class Two, District Five title Nov. 8 at home with a 48-12 win over Hermann. The Crusaders took 16 seconds to score the first touchdown and after trailing 12-6 scored six unanswered touchdowns. Carl Thomas ran for two touchdowns while Cortez Simmons scored two more, running for one and receiving one of two Baker touchdown passes.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY — Lutheran North junior Zoe Hamber finished 15th at the Class Two Girls State Cross Country Championships Nov. 8 in Jefferson City. Hamber ran the Oak Hills Golf Center course as an individual in 20:55.29 a year after finishing fifth (20:27.18). Brianna Haller, a freshman from State Class Two team champion Fatima, won the individual title (19:35.68).
