The Ferguson-Florissant School District’s Board of Education recently approved the formation of the
Ferguson-Florissant Foundation for Education (FFFE), which will focus on enhancing community support and expanding resources that enrich teaching, inspire learning, and maximize opportunities for all district students.
The FFFE will provide much-needed dollars for educational programs and activities that are not funded by the district’s normal operating budget. It will also award grants to recognize innovative teaching, which will provide resources directly to classroom teachers who develop and implement innovative educational programs.
An advisory board consisting of Ferguson-Florissant parents, students and community members will be formed this fall, and will create grant criteria and oversee grant awards for teachers and staff.
The FFFE is a component fund of the Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation. All gifts to the FFFE will qualify as charitable contributions for tax purposes. The Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation (GSTLCF) will make grants based upon the recommendations of the FFFE advisory board.
According to Laura Modrusic, Ferguson-Florissant’s Chief Financial Officer, the district decided to partner with the GSTLCF in order to benefit from the fund management expertise offered by the nearly century-old, community-based institution.
“By tapping the vast resources of the GSTLCF, we can hit the ground running as we work to make a difference in the lives of our students,” said Modrusic. “We hope having this kind of support and expertise available to us at the outset will help us quickly fund deserving programs in our district, while also exposing the Ferguson-Florissant Foundation for Education to a greater number of potential donors.”
Donors may make contributions directly to the fund at the Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation or through the Ferguson-Florissant School District.
The Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation has been helping St. Louisans put their charitable dollars to work since 1915. The Foundation has nearly 460 charitable funds totaling $250 million in assets, which make over $30 million in grants that shape our region, touch communities across the nation and reach across the globe.
Moreover, the Community Foundation administers charitable funds, and provides customized giving tools that make giving easy, maximize tax benefits, and give donors the confidence that their dollars are making a real difference in the lives of others.
