Northwoods Sunday Pops Concert Honors Anne Frank

Northwinds Concert Band, led by Larry Marsh, will present a Sunday Pops Concert in the Florissant Civic Center Theatre at 3 p.m. on Oct. 26. Reserved tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and students and may be purchased at the box office or by calling 314-921-5678.

The high-spirited concert will feature tuneful, uplifting music, including a powerful new work honoring the memory of Anne Frank, who was sent to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp seventy years ago this month. Florissant native, Leah Poe, will be guest violin soloist in this moving piece. She will also perform the lovely theme from “Schindler’s List.”

The concert will open with the Star Spangled Banner sung by the Jameson Quartet.

Northwinds is honored to present the American premiere of a new work by German composer Alexander Reuber based upon a haunting German folk legend. Other compositions will include light-hearted silent movie “villain” music, tuneful songs written by Benjamin Franklin, jazzy music from the Mississippi Delta, and powerful Native-American “Ghost Dances.”
