High school sports practices including football begin Aug. 11

High Schools that are members of the Missouri State High School Activities Association can start practices for the fall sports season on Monday, Aug. 11.

Participating and eligible student-athletes must have their physicals taken before beginning practices. MSHSAA has a pre-preparation sports examination physical form on-line by going to mshsaa.org and clicking on “Preparticipation Sports Examination Physical Form.”

The opening day of fall sports practices for MSHSAA member schools is also the opening day for high schools in the Ferguson-Florissant, Hazelwood and Riverview Gardens School Districts. For other schools, public or private, contact the school of interest or go online to that school’s web site(s).

North County Christian School is NOT A MSHSAA member. For more information on the opening day of fall sports practices and/or sports schedules go online at nccsedu.org.
MSHSAA high schools can open interscholastic competition Aug. 25 in Girls Golf, Girls Tennis and Fall Softball. High School Football can have preseason scrimmages or jamborees on Aug. 22-23 and can open their season Aug. 29. Girls Volleyball, Boys Swimming, Boys Soccer and Cross Country can open their season Sept. 1 but since it is Labor Day those sports programs will likely start Sept. 2.

Girls Field Hockey has no designated starting date for games but will likely be Sept. 2. MSHSAA does sanction Field Hockey but does not sponsor a state championship because there are only 28 high schools and at least 50 is required for a MSHSAA-sponsored state championship tournament.

The fall sports season ends Nov. 28-29 with the football Show-Me Bowl, which includes the eight-man championships on Nov. 28, at the Edward Jones Dome. Other MSHSAA fall championship dates includes Girls Golf-Oct. 20-21, Girls Tennis-Team-Oct 23, Singles-Doubles-Oct. 24-25, Softball-Oct. 24-25, Girls Volleyball-Nov. 7-8, Cross Country-Nov. 8, Boys Swimming & Diving-Nov. 14-15 (at St. Peters’ Rec-Plex) and Boys Soccer, Nov. 21-22 (at Anheuser-Busch Center, Fenton).

Girls Swimming pre-season practices begin Nov. 17, interscholastic contest can start Dec. 8 and the MSHSAA championships will be crowned Feb. 20-21 at the St. Peters’ Rec-Plex.

Club Ice Hockey-Dates for starting practices and games as well as the post-season championships are not available at press time. It is NOT A MSHSAA sanctioned sport.

North County Christian School Dates for beginning of Basketball practices as well as well as the beginning and end of competition for 2008–09 are not available at press time.

SPRING 2009 — While Water Polo begins practice Feb. 23 and interscholastic competition begins March 16, all other MSHSAA spring sports practices begin March 2 and interscholastic competition begins March 23. All spring sports contests must close by the last day of school except for MSHSAA state tournament contests and the MSHSAA state championships close June 6.

Girls Lacrosse, which became a MSHSAA-sanctioned sport last spring, Water Polo, a mainly boys sport, and Boys Volleyball are MSHSAA sanctioned sports but the MSHSAA does not sanctioned post-season championships because each sport has less than the 50-school minimum. Boys Lacrosse was still a club sport as of last spring and there is no decision on whether the MSHSAA will sanction the sport next spring. Dates for spring sports at North County Christian are not available at press time.
