Open Hazelwood West’s Season

This Weekend (Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25) .Hazelwood West Softball and Boys Soccer teams open the fall, 2018 season with tournaments.

Friday, Hazelwood West Softball will open the 12th Annual Troy (Buchanan) Lead off Classic as the Wildcats take on Bowling Green at 3 p.m. or 4 p.m., which means an early dismissal from school. A win means the Wildcats play in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. the same day while a loss puts the ‘Cats in the Saturday, 9 a.m. consolation quarterfinals. The 12th Annual Troy Lead off Classic is a 16-team tournament that begins Friday at 2 p.m. and continues on Saturday, ending with the final games including the championship to start around 5 p.m.

Hazelwood West, 40-5 over the last two seasons (20-2 last year), will be now playing in the newly formed Suburban Red Pool. West will play against only one area rival, former Suburban XII Conference North Division rival Hazelwood Central at home Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. One of the Suburban Red Pool rivals is former Suburban North Conference rival Pattonville, and the ‘Cats host the Pirates Sept. 11 (Patriot Day) at 4 p.m.

Saturday, Hazelwood West Boy Soccer begins at 9 a.m. with the first game of Pool B in the Fort Zumwalt Kickoff Classic against Francis Howell High at Fort Zumwalt South Stadium.     The Wildcats then take on the host Bulldogs Aug. 28, 7 p.m., at Zumwalt South Stadium. Finally, West will play on the Zumwalt South soccer grass Aug. 29, 5:30 p.m. against Duchesne

Last year Hazelwood West finished 16-6-2, won the Suburban XII North with a 9-0 mark and was Class Four District three runner-ups to new Suburban Red Pool rival Pattonville. Last year in the Fort Zumwalt Kickoff Classic the ‘Cats defeated Missouri Military Academy (10-0) and Lutheran St. Charles County (5-1) before losing to Zumwalt South 3-0.

FERGUSON-FLOIRSSANT SCHOOL DISTRICT Cross Country Kickoff takes place Saturday at 9 a.m. as McCluer and McCluer South-Berkeley Boys and Girls run at McCluer North.

NORTH COUNTY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL Boys Soccer, with Greg Sampson beginning his second year as head coach, opens the season Aug 28 at home with a 5 p.m. game against Gateway Science Academy, a South St. Louis charter school.

NORTH TECHNICAL SPORTS begins with Cross Country Aug. 30 at the Lutheran South Invitational at Jefferson Barracks Park, The Boys run at 4:30 and the Girls run at 5:15.
