Walk of Fame Plaque For Dick Weber will be Dedicated September 2

The City of Florissant, along with Florissant Old Town Partners, will be hosting a plaque dedication and will be unveiling a plaque in honor of the late Hall of Fame bowler and businessman Dick Weber.

This will be the 19th Walk Through History plaque. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at 801 rue St. Francois. The Weber family will be in attendance including Weber’s son, Hall of Fame Pro Bowler Pete Weber.

Weber was born in Indiana in 1929 and died in 2005. Weber moved to Florissant in 1955 and opened Dick Weber Lanes in 1971. In 1955 he formed a bowling team called the Budweisers (after the popular American beer brand). The team established a long-standing 5-man ABC league series record in 1958.

Weber was the founding member and longtime star of the professional bowlers association (PBA) from the 1950s to the 1990s. His legendary half-century career included 26 regular and six senior PBA tour titles and he was one of sport’s most popular figures.

Weber’s gentlemanly manner and extraordinary skill made him a crowd favorite, and he worked hard to promote bowling with TV appearances and promotional events. He once famously bowled on a lane inside an airplane, and he made frequent appearances over the years on David Letterman’s talk shows. He has consistently been voted by fans as one of the top three bowlers ever.

Weber is a member of the United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame, PBA Hall of Fame, and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and is on the St. Louis Walk of Fame. Dick’s wife Juanita still resides in Florissant and sons Pete, John and Richard and daughter Paula still live in the St. Louis area.
