Jennings School also Closed on Tuesday
All schools in the Ferguson-Florissant School District were closed Tuesday, August 19 and will remain closed through Friday, August 22 due to continued unrest in and around Ferguson. This decision was made after much careful deliberation and consideration of input received from local law enforcement officials and district security staff.
“We believe that closing schools for the rest of this week will allow needed time for peace and stability to be restored to our community and allow families to plan ahead for the additional days that children will be out of school,” a district spokesperson said. “While we deeply regret this delay to the start of the 2014-2015 school year, our first priority is the safety of our students.”
Due to this change, the first day of school in the Ferguson-Florissant School District will be on Monday, August 25.
Jennings Schools remained close on Tuesday also, but the district did not announce that schools would be closed all week. “
“While the incidents were contained in Ferguson, out of an abundance of caution in regards to traffic flow for students walking to school, we will assess matters an additional day and we will use Tuesday as a staff development day for staff to prepare for students on Wednesday,” the district stated.
All of Jennings schools are located within walking distance in the middle of each neighborhood. As a result, any student that needs access to free lunch at the school closest to them or any family that needs access to free mental health services, may access those services noon- 1 p.m. on Tuesday day at the school closest to their residence.
