Annual Fiesta in Florissant this Weekend at Knights of Columbus Park

Hispanic Festival, Inc. of Greater St. Louis will be presenting “Fiesta in Florissant” at the Knights of Columbus Park. The park is near the corner of Lindbergh and Washington St., near Old St. Ferdinand Shrine. The event will take place on Saturday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The colorful and festive Welcome Ceremony will begin on Saturday, June 21 at 5 p.m. with opening remarks from Florissant Mayor Thomas Schneider.

The two-day celebration will feature non-stop entertainment with live Latino Bands and Folkloric dancers from various countries including Venezuela, Colombia and Mexico. This year’s entertainment will include Grupo Maravilla Band from Mexico, Parranderos Latin Combo Band from Iowa and Grupo Ixbalanque, a group of folkloric dancers from Guatemala.

There will also be a wide variety of foods and beverages from Latin & South America available for purchase, including tamales, tacos and empanadas.

Other attractions include folk arts and crafts, Los Niños Kids Corner with piñatas and Dora the Explorer, Exotic Petting Zoo with pony rides, Inflatable Rides and information booths from several cultural organizations to acquaint the public with their programs and services. New this year is the Miss Chiquita Bonita Pageant and the Hispanic Heritage Costume Fashion Show. Expect giveaways and more.

One of the Fair’s purposes is to celebrate the common heritage of Hispanic nations, particularly because of the rise of the Hispanic population in North County. The funds raised are used to fund scholarships distributed to college-bound students and underprivileged children.
