Muny Offers Old and New for 2014 Season, Tickets Available Now

The 2014 Muny Opera Season has been announced, and it features some old favorites as well as some new shows. Tickets are available in a wide range of prices. The Muny Box Office is open Saturday, March 8 from 9am -5pm. Regular hours are Monday through Friday 9am – 5pm. The 2014 shows are listed below.

Billy Elliot the Musical

June 16 – 22. Muny and regional premiere.

The international hit Billy Elliot the Musical has its first original US production at The Muny. A powerful and moving story of a family struggling to help young Billy achieve his dream, Billy Elliott the Musical features extraordinary dancing, and wonderful and heartfelt music by the legendary Elton John.  Billy Elliott the Musical is the winner of ten Tony® and ten Drama Desk® awards, and four Olivier Awards.

Tarzan

June 25 – July 2. U.S. and Muny Premiere.

Featuring music and lyrics by Phil Collins, the award-winning Tarzan is based on the smash-hit Disney film. The story follows an infant boy, orphaned and left alone to be raised by a tribe of apes. As an adult, Tarzan’s two worlds collide when the sudden arrival of humans, forces him to choose between a “civilized” life with the beautiful Jane and the life he knows and loves.

The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess

July 7 – 13. First Muny appearance since 1988.

Winner of the 2012 Tony® Award for Best Revival of a Musical, The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess arrives at The Muny with award-winning members of the Broadway cast in this stunning and stirring new staging.  Set in Charleston’s fabled Catfish Row, it tells the story of the beautiful Bess as she struggles to break free from her scandalous past, and the only one who can rescue her is the courageous Porgy.

The Addams Family

July 14 – 20. Regional and Muny Premiere.

Making its regional and Muny premiere, The Addams Family puts Charles Addam’s classic and beloved characters in a hilarious Broadway musical that has been thrilling audiences worldwide. The Addams Family features a book by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, and music by Andrew Lippa.

Seussical

July 22 – 28. Muny Premiere.

Making its Muny premiere, Seussical brings fantasy to life on the Muny stage. Based on the classic children’s books of Dr. Seuss and narrated by the mischievous Cat in the Hat, this delightful musical follows Horton the elephant in his quest to protect the people of Who-ville. Seussical is the timeless story of being true to your word, not living in fear, and the power of believing in yourself.

Grease

July 31 – August 8. First Muny Production since 2007.

One of the most popular shows in Muny history, Grease returns for nine nights in its first Muny production since 2007. Packed with explosive energy, Grease takes you back to a simpler time as “bad boy” Danny and “the girl next door” Sandy fall in love all over again. Join us this summer and share in this timeless classic.

Hello, Dolly

August 11 – 17. First Muny Production since 2007.

Mrs. Dolly Levi makes her grand Muny return in the classic musical, Hello, Dolly!. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Broadway opening, this award-winning musical features the irresistible story of matchmaker extraordinaire Dolly Levi as she “meddles” her way from Yonkers to New York City.
