Future Leaders Academy

City of Florissant logo   The Florissant Police Department has announced an upcoming Future Leaders Academy. Any young men in the Florissant area are welcome and encouraged to participate in this academy. This academy is for young men who are currently enrolled in high school. The class is limited to 40 students. (We do plan on hosting an all-female academy in the near future.) The academy will consist of 8 days beginning June 10, 2019 to June 13, 2019 and June 17, 2019 to June 20, 2019 (9am – 4pm).

The academy will be instructed by Florissant Police Officers. The students will learn about various career paths in law enforcement via presentations from our many operational divisions such as: Patrol, Detective Bureau, Traffic Safety, Code Enforcement, Mobile Reserve Unit and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Unit (UAS). The students will have a meet and greet with City of Florissant Mayor Tim Lowery and Chief of Police Tim Fagan. Presentations from UMSL, Maryville University, Harris Stowe University, Ranken Technical College, St. Louis University, and Washington University admission counselors and a tour of the Lindenwood University campus will also be conducted. The students will meet with military recruiters from Navy, Army, Air Force and United States Marine Corps. Fox 2 Now St. Louis – Personal Trainer Segment – Arthur Shivers and other motivational speakers are also scheduled to present to the students. The students will learn to tie a tie,

earn 6 hours of community service for college applications and attend a St. Louis Cardinals vs Miami Marlins baseball game with Florissant Police Officers. On the last day of the academy students and families are invited for a BBQ at St. Ferdinand Park.

The purpose of the Florissant Police Department Future Leaders Academy is to foster an open dialog between young citizens and the Florissant Police Department through instructional education about career paths. The goal for the Future Leaders Academy is to establish a better understanding of the practices and procedures of the Florissant Police Department and to create a partnership with the young men of the community it serves. All academy graduates are encouraged to share their experience and knowledge from the Florissant Police Department with other students as the opportunity arises.

The mission of the Florissant Police Department Future Leaders Academy is to offer the youth of Florissant the opportunity to experience hands-on methods and techniques in the profession of law enforcement. This academy will prove to be an exciting and interesting view into the workings of the Florissant Police Department. The topics covered will be current and very informative. The students will also gain an understanding of community responsibility, educational goals, fitness and health and the role of the public servant.
