Lawson School Students Holds Olympic Spring Training over the Break
Lawson students at Olympic Spring Training on March 26
On March 26, while the rest of the Hazelwood School District observed Spring Break, 30 Lawson Elementary students—grades third through fifth, attended a special school session, “Olympic Spring Training,” to help prepare students for the upcoming Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) testing.
Principal Dr. Betty Scheller, instructional specialist Julie Mazar, librarian Carolyn Scaia, Lawson teachers Susan Gentry, Danielle Polk, Joe Genenbacher and Chris Tebbe, OASIS reading volunteer Judy Boggs, attended the session.
Students rotated between curriculum-themed learning stations throughout the morning. Some of the learning stations included reading fluency and mathematics; students were then given a hole-punched card at the end of each completed rotation. Students were also awarded prizes for their effort and positive behavior.
“I actually enjoyed coming to school during my spring break. My teachers really made learning fun. Although I must admit, the ‘Fuel up!’ snack station was my favorite activity,” said one fourth-grader.
Parents were also appreciative of the extra-effort made by the school principal and teachers.
“My son had a great time! Thanks Lawson family,” said Latricia Davis Wallace.
