Ferguson-Florissant List Spelling Bee Finalists, Winner Advances to Regional

The Ferguson-Florissant School District held its annual District-wide Spelling Bees on Feb 10 and 11. Holman Elementary School fifth-grader Estephanie Estrada won the district-wide spelling bee, and two students – Commons Lane Elementary sixth-grader Megan Mathers and Ferguson Middle eighth-grader Alexandria Taylor — were selected as finalists to compete in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Regional Spelling Bee on March 1.

Fifty-eight students competed in grade-level competitions for grades 4-8 on Feb. 10 at the District’s Administration Center in Florissant. The winners of each grade level are as follows:

Fourth grade: Brittany Jenkins. Fifth grade: Sarah Mueller, Sixth grade: Marissa Hughes Seventh grade: Quinten Ford Eighth grade: Alexandria Taylor

On Feb. 11, the 20 winners of elementary and middle school spelling bees previously held throughout the district participated in the District Championship Spelling Bee at the  Administration Center. Holman Elementary School fifth-grader Estephanie Estrada won the competition.

All 20 school level winners, including Estephanie Estrada, were invited to participate in the Post-Dispatch Spelling Bee written semi-finals, held Feb. 22 at McKendree College in Lebanon, Ill. Commons Lane Elementary sixth-grader Megan Mathers and Ferguson Middle eighth-grader Alexandria Taylor were          selected as finalists. Mathers and Taylor will join 32 other top spellers from throughout the metropolitan area to compete in the Post-Dispatch Regional Spelling Bee on March 1.
