Village North dining room is named for retiring employee

Village North MARIETTA MARESCHAL, who is retiring from Village North Retirement Community, was remembered in a special way when the dining room was named, “Marietta’s Place” in her honor.

When Florissant resident Marietta Mareschal first began working at Village North Retirement Community 26 years ago as a dining room attendant, the tables and chairs had not even been placed yet in the dining room. The finishing touches were still being done on the newly built retirement community located next to Christian Hospital. In fact, she remembers when the lack of sod around the building caused a resident to step in mud and get stuck outside the front door.

Mareschal, who is retiring, has a lot of good memories of Village North as well as of its residents she has served over the years. And recently she was remembered in a special way when a newly painted wall was unveiled, naming the Village North dining room “Marietta’s Place” in her honor.

“When I started here, we probably served six to 12 people,” Mareschal says. “But with three people selling the retirement apartments, we soon had luncheons every day for prospective residents, and eventually we served close to 350 residents and their families for holiday dinners.”

“For them to name this place after Marietta says it all about her,” John Gloss, vice president, says. “It’s quite a tribute to her.”
