Sometimes it is hard to find things to write about that have not already been pounded into the ground by everyone but as we start the New Year, I have no problems at all.
We can talk about the weather, we can talk about how most guys sat their butts on the couch from Friday Night to Sunday Night watching every football game under the sun or should I say snowy sky. I know that I caught a lot of grief but for once I felt that it was okay to do so.
I watched as Missouri played up to their potential in a high risk situation, most of the time when things are on the line for this team they fall apart but they hung in there and took home the Cotton Bowl. That was an exciting start to the weekend.
Then on Saturday, you had the doubleheader NFL game where Kansas City did what Missouri usually does and threw the game away. I know that the Kansas City players were dropping like flies with injuries but with a lead as big as they had, play some defense, some smart defense.
As far as Sunday goes, another doubleheader NFL game and they did not disappoint either as the Green Bay and San Francisco game went down to the end. I thought for sure that the Packers would win in the cold weather but the 49ers pulled it out. Pretty impressive.
Then came Monday night and the BCS National Championship game and everybody thought that Auburn would be smashed but they held their own and almost held on to win. I give a lot of credit though to Florida State for not giving up. They chipped away at the score and scored when it mattered most—at the end.
If you look back at my columns over the years, you will see that I always talked about going to a playoff system and I know many others have felt the same way. Well it will finally happening next year. I guess they figured out that they could generate more money that way. We will see how it goes with the four-team playoff at the end.
Finally for my first column of 2014, I thought I would tell you about how I am already about a week into my new workout running program and how I am dedicated into getting back into shape. But I can’t, all I can tell you about are my short jogs back and forth from the refrigerator to the couch for the football games during the first week of the new year.
I will get there though as the weather gets better. My goal is to lose 10 more pounds. I was told to set a number and go after it. So set a resolution, no matter what it is, and go after it. Happy New Year
