Two weeks after gaining their first Missouri State High School Activities Association district plaque, North County Technical High School picked up the first MSHSAA State athletic trophy for a St Louis County Special School District institution.
Last weekend at Dwight T. Reed Stadium, on the Lincoln University campus in Jefferson City, North Tech took second place in State Girls Track & Field. With state medals won in five individual and two relay events North Tech scored a school-record 43 points in a state meet. Penny High ran away with the Class Two State title with 77 points, 34 ahead of North Tech while Crystal City was third with 36, seven behind NCT.
Junior Brittany Turner played a role in three events, two of them resulted in a school-best second place finishes. Turner was second in the Girls Triple Jump (34’7″) was on the second-place Girls 4×200-Meter relay team (1:47) with senior Marquista Hill and sophomores Briante Wells and Sandra Ewing. Turner, Hill, Wells and junior Shakira Thomas was on the Girls 4×100-Meter Relay team that finished third (50.82 seconds). Ewing was third in the Girls 800-Meter Run (2:22.65) and fifth in the Girls 400-Meter Dash (1:00.31) and Thomas was third in the Girls Long Jump (17’4.25″).
North Tech Boys finished in a four-way tie for 12th in Class Two State with 16 points. NCT shared 12th with Palmyra, South Harrison and Westran. Trenton (67 points) won the Boys Class Two State title.
Junior Aaron Smith and sophomore Marquis White were on the only medal-winning events as the Boys 4×100-Meter Relay (43.93 seconds) and Boys 4×200-Meter Relay (1:32.12) both took second place. Joining Smith and White on the 4×100 Relay team were junior Reggie Helden and sophomore Rasheen Aldridge. Joining Smith and White on the 4×200-Meter Relay team were seniors Brian Brown and Kevin Canady.
