Izzy Can Work Back To Closer Role After A Little Set-up Work

BY RANDY GARDNER

First off, the Cardinals season had been a blast the first six weeks. It’s a lot of fun to watch them as they start off hot with the best April ever and then in May, Jason Isringhausens wheels fall off the train and the long-time closer movesto a different role.

I think he will be all right in the long run. Every athlete goes through some ups and downs and he is just having some troubles right now. It becomes a mind game as you lose a few games and can’t get it back on track.

Get Izzy in as a setup man and let him get his confidence back and then put him back in the closer role. You can almost feel when he is pitching now that the fans along with Jason are just waiting for something bad to happen and it does.

On Tuesday night I was watching the game as slumping Troy Glaus hit his second home run of the year to put the birds up 3-2, then I had to appease my three-year- old and watch an episode of Batman with him and when I turned it back the Cards were losing 4-3. So went back to Batman and then it was 4-4.. I should have watched the rest of the game but it is much more fun analyzing why they are struggling right now.

As we near the quarter point of the season though, this team is much further than anyone would have ever thought, so lets enjoy it.

News out of Chicago today, that the Cubs might sign Jim Edmunds. How fun would that be for the fans to see Jim roll through town with the Cubbies. This could maybe renew the rivalry that is slowly picking back up from where it was there a few years back. For the Cubs, Edmunds could be a good pickup in centerfield.

Rams to Train on Banks of Lake Michigan

The Rams have said goodbye to the fans that come out and enjoy training camp at Rams Park. The team will pack it up and head to Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin. It’s about 400 miles from St. Louis, just north of Milwaukee near Lake Michigan. Why, you ask? I think it is a great move.

Get the team away from its surroundings and make them go learn the game up there where there are no distractions. That is why Western Illinois University was great; the team really would come together as a team because that was all there was to do, play football.

It will be about a 6-hour drive for fans now but they will expose this team to fans outside of the area. It should be a bit cooler for the team in August.

After the first off-season mini camp, everything looks good. Chris Long seems to have come in and fit in really nicely. It is really weird to not see Isaac Bruce out there though. Even Tory Holt mentioned that Isaac is really missed. Tory will have to step up now and fill that role.

Tory was always the happy go lucky jokester guy and Bruce was the front of the line serious guy. Holt will have to step up as a leader now, especially for these young guys. They need someone that can teach them good work habits.
