The Bridge at Florissant Collecting Holiday Items for Our Troops Overseas

The Bridge at Florissant is collecting items for soldiers this November. All items should be dropped off at The Bridge at Florissant, 1101 Garden Plaza Drive (off North New Florissant Road on Parker Road) by Saturday, Nov. 30.

The cause hits close to home for some residents and employees. Sales Director Mary Swip’s son, Kevin, is deployed as a Combat-Medic wit the U.S. Army in the 1st squad, Treatment platoon, Charlie company, 15th Bsb, 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry, in Afghanistan.

Recommended food and snack items include:  beef jerky or slim Jims, individually wrapped hard candy and gum, granola bars, cereal bars, power bars, dry soup mix, fruit roll-ups, fruit gummie and fruit by the foot, cheese and cracker packs, and condiments, such as spices, sugar, and salad dressing (no glass jars or bottles), and small packages of chips or cookies.

There is also a need for toiletries. No hotel sample can be accepted. Recommended toiletries are: travel size baby wipes and hand sanitizer, travel size deodorant, baby power, mouthwash, lotions, shampoos and conditioners, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, cough drops, and multi-vitamins.

Entertainment and sports items are also needed. These include new or used DVD movies, Xbox games, and PS2 games. Puzzle books, board games, and playing cards are also needed, as well as nerf footballs, whiffle balls, sports equipment, and Frisbees.

There is also a request for US flags, state flags, bandanas, baseball hats, sports jerseys and banners, and sunglasses.
