Incarnate Word will have the largest representation of runners from North County High Schools to the Missouri State High School Activities Association Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Oak Hills Golf Center, Jefferson City, while Lutheran North is second, all in girls’ competition.
IWA will send five girls to run in Class Three to run in the final race of the day at 1:05 p.m. while Lutheran North will send four to run in the Class Two race at 10:15 a.m. The top 25 runners in each race among four classes, boys and girls, will get medals.
All IWA and Lutheran North runners will compete as individuals only since both teams Nov.2 at Principia — IWA in Class Three, District Three and LHSN in Class Two, District Two — each finished third in district competition and only the top two teams in each of those districts qualify their teams for state. Individuals finishing in the top 15 in each race qualified for state.
Leading the way from Jefferson City from Principia in Class Three, District Three for IWA is Libby Hercules, who finished fifth (21:59.21), followed by Tori Kruse (eighth-22:38.96), Kelly Northcutt (12th-22:51.27), Brittany McGinnis (13th-23:00.22) and Emily Paridy (15th-23:14.86).
Lutheran North sophomore Zoe Hamber won the Class Two, District Two race Nov.2 by running the Principia course in 20:53.29. Joining Hamber in Jefferson City from Lutheran North are Kaiah Farid (eighth-23:47.95), Taylor Jenkins (13th-24:35.86) and Lydia Snyder (15th-24:48.86).
HAZELWOOD WEST will send two runners to the Class Four Girls race that will start at 12:35 p.m. after finishing in the top 30 in the Sectional Two meet Nov. 2 at Blackburn Park, Webster Groves. Erica Atnip, finishing 18th at Blackburn Park (20:30.00) and Rachel Hutchcraft (28th-20:42.00) will race as individuals. Hazelwood West, who qualified to compete as a team in Sectional Two after finishing third in District Three Oct. 26 at Forest Park, finished eighth at Blackburn Park.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY— Only three runners from North County schools will compete this Saturday at Oak Hills Golf Center as Nelson Njogu, Hazelwood West, and Nicholas Taylor, McCluer North, will compete in the Class Four race at 11:30 a.m. while Tony Nichols, Trinity Catholic, will open the day’s state meet by running in Class Two at 9 a.m.
