Florissant Hearings: Pizza Location, Storage Units, City Budget Before City Council

The Florissant City Council held three public hearings at their meeting this week. In the first, they heard about as proposal by Uncle Bob’s Storage to build two additional storage buildings at the facility at 450 West Washington. The new buildings will be similar to the existing buildings at the facility.
In the second hearing, the council heard a plan by Family Video, located at 3524 Patterson Road, to open a restaurant in the building next to the video store. Roy Williams, speaking for the restaurant, said that Family Video often has larger buildings than they need and they lease the unused portion to other stores. He noticed, they said, that pizza restaurants do very well in these locations. They have decided to open some restaurants of their own in locations that did not already have another restaurant.
The pizza restaurant would be open from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
The third public hearing was about the proposed city budget for fiscal year 2014. City Finance Director Randy McDaniel was available to answer questions, but there were none. The council still has work sessions scheduled on the budget. The city’s fiscal year runs from Dec. 1 through Nov. 30.
In other actions, the council postponed an bill that would rezone property at the East side of the Dunn Road and New Florissant Road intersection. The site is currently a BP station and vacant building. CVS Pharmacy has requested the rezoning in order to build a store on the site.
Councilman Tim Lee requested the postponement. He noted that the council had requested cross access agreeements from CVS and they had not received them. He requested that the council not approve the bill until they had all the signed agreeements.The council voted to postpone. Councilwoman Jackie Pagano recused herself from the discussion and vote, as she has during all discussions and votes about this project, since she and her husband own a business adjacent to the site.
The council also passed a bill that would transfer a special use permit from Hot Shots to Show-Me’s for the restaurant at 1786-98 New Florissant Road. Before it was Hot Shots, the site was Brewski’s.
Mayor Tom Schneider commented about the Fall Festival after the meeting.
“It was the best ever; we had the best weather, the best crowd, and a nice blend of vendors and service organizations raising money for charities.”
“The businesses in Old Town were open and getting attention, as well as other businesses that came from the rest of the city.”
“I think the neat thing is that Florissant residents really enjoy getting out and seeing each other. We saw that at Fall Festival and at the Food Truck night.”
