Many friends and family members gathered on the corner of rue St. Francois and St. Jacques on Wednesday, September 25 to unveil the 16th Walk Through History plaque in honor of the late Henry Hendel. The plaque dedication took place before the last Wednesday Night Out event which was being hosted by Hendel’s Café.
The Hendel family has played a major role in the history of the City of Florissant. Henry Hendel was a life-long resident of Florissant and a World War II Army veteran. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 444 and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He operated Hendel’s Market for forty-seven years as a popular neighborhood grocery store. He loved Florissant and was a true ambassador for the City. The legacy of Hendel’s Market continues today as Hendel’s Market Cafe.
