More than 2,170 Attend HSD’s Fall Family Festival
More than 2,170 individuals, including Board of Education members, Supt.
Grayling Tobias and other HSD administrators, staff, students and their families, as well as members from the community recently attended the annual Hazelwood School District’s Fall Family Festival. The event took place at Hazelwood East Middle School.
Highlights from the festival included a complimentary dinner, community resource fair, entertainment performances by HSD student groups, free haircuts and face painting.
There were health screenings and a healthy family information booth. Several classrooms offered Promethean board demonstrations, free book give-a-ways and a fun zone which created a carnival-like atmosphere for children of all ages to experience math and literacy games.
“I was excited about the turnout for this year’s Fall Family Festival,” said Audrey Wittenauer, HSD federal programs specialist and event organizer. “Last year our event was a success but this year, our numbers quadrupled. When I saw the long lines of people waiting to register, I was speechless. It was great to see the increased parent involvement. This ties back to HSD’s No. 2 goal, to increase parent and community involvement. I can honestly say our families and community exceeded our attendance expectations.
“The Fall Festival is one of HSD’s many events which provide our parents with community resources and educational games that they can do at home with their children,” she said.
Following the event, Wittenauer shared her appreciation for the planning team and volunteers who helped to make this year’s event a huge success. “Tonight’s event was great because of the parent involvement committee and volunteers,” said Wittenauer. “I appreciate this entire team of dedicated professionals.
