Suicide Prevention Event September 21

The 5th Annual Suicide Prevention Awareness Event will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at St. Ferdinand Park in Florissant. 100% of the net proceeds from the event go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

This event is hosted by the Florissant Youth Advisory Commission and is held in memory of Alex McArthur.

The event consists of a 5K race and one mile fun run, a softball tournament, and a barbecue.

Registration for the races is open now at www.onestoprace.com. Call 921-4250 for more information. Runners can also register from 7 – 7:45 a.m. on the day of the race. The cost is $20 until Sept. 13 or $25 on race day.

The 5K course begins on the St. Ferdinand loop and winds through connecting neighborhoods, back into the park for the finish. The 5K race will be timed using pull tag timing; the one mile fun run will not be timed.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female 5K racers. Pets and strollers are welcome on the one mile course only. All participants who register by September 13 will receive performance T-shirts. Race day registrations will receive T-shirts as available.

The softball tournament will have men and co-ed divisions. The cost to enter is $100 per team, and players must be 18 or older. Teams can register at the JFK or Eagan Centers. Teams must be registered by September 18.

The full schedule of events follows:

7 – 7:45 a.m. – Registration for 5K and 1 mile fun run

8 a.m. – 5k race begins

9 a.m. – 1 mile fun run begins

11 a.m. – softball tournament begins

11:30 a.m. – barbecue begins
