Florissant Police Chief Timothy J. Lowery announced a 9% decrease in the crime rate for the City of Florissant for the first quarter of 2013. The reported crimes are broken down in to two categories, Part I and Part II Crimes. Part I Crimes include Homicide, Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Stealing, Motor Vehicle Theft and Arson. Part II Crimes include Simple Assault, Property Damage, and Sex Offenses (other than Rape).

There were 384 total reported crimes at the end of March 2013, and 422 total reported crimes at the end of March 2012. The department did see an increase in Calls for Service, which is attributed to residents feeling more comfortable in notifying the police of suspicious activity, which ultimately reduces crime.

Lowery attributed the drop in crime to the officers who “diligently patrol the streets of Florissant and the investigators who are identifying and charging repeat offenders.” Lowery said that the most important factor in the decrease was the strong partnership the Police Department has with the Citizens of Florissant. “The citizens are our eyes and ears within the neighborhoods.”
