Florissant Police Chief Timothy J. Lowery has announced that the Police Department has a new tool to promote the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program to the youth of Florissant.
The Florissant Police Department acquired a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro as an asset forfeiture through a narcotics investigation that a Florissant Police Officer was involved in with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The vehicle was recently marked as a D.A.R.E. Florissant Police car, and it will be used by the Florissant Police D.A.R.E. Officer as she drives it to the different schools within Florissant to promote the D.A.R.E. program.
The D.A.R.E. program enables students to interact with Florissant Police Officers in a controlled, safe, classroom environment.
This helps students and officers meet and understand each other in a friendly manner, instead of having to meet when a student commits a crime or when officers must intervene in domestic disputes and severe family problems.
“I am proud that the Florissant Police Department will be able to use this vehicle to promote the importance of the D.A.R.E. program,” said Chief Lowery. “The circumstance of how we got this car shows that crime doesn’t pay.”
The Police Department wishes to thank the Florissant License Office/Florissant Rotary and Johnny Londoff Chevrolet for monetary donations to purchase equipment for the car; Sign-A-Rama for placing the decals on the vehicle; and Responder Public Safety Equipment for providing the emergency lights and siren on the vehicle.
