Some Valley of Flowers Events Start Early; Register for Others Now

The Valley of Flowers kicks off Friday, May 3. Look for the special pull-out section  with all the Festival activities in the May 2 edition of The Independent News.

Some events, however, will start early.

The first of three high school baseball games at Koch Park field 1 will take place on Wednesday, May 1 at 7 p.m. Hazelwood Central will battle Hazelwood East. Friday night, May 3, McCluer North and McCluer will play at 7 p.m.,, and on Saturday, May 4, Trinity Catholic High School will take on DuBourg at 2 p.m.

The Pitch, Hit and Run Competition for kids ages 7 – 14 takes place on Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m at Koch Park field 2. The competition is free but requires pre-registration by May 1. To enter, call the JFK Community Center at 921-4460

Some events also have early registration available.

The car show on rue St. Francois will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Organizers are taking registration now as well as on the day of the show. Advance registration is $10 and day of the show registration is $12. For more information or to register, call 837-0033.

The Craft Fair takes place at the James J. Eagan Center on Friday, May 3 from noon – 9 p.m. and Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Reservations for booths are being taken now. Call the Festival office at 837-0033 or apply online at www.florissantvalleyofflowers.com

Participants can register for the Tot Wheels Parade at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 4, before the parade starts at 9:30 a.m. They can also register now at 837-0033 or online at www.florissantvalleyofflowers.com

Registration for the Pretty Baby Photo Contest is open now, also. There is a $5 free until May 2. After that, the registration fee is $7. The contest takes place on the ice rink pavilion of the Eagan Center on Friday, May 3, from noon – 8 and Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. For more information, call the festival office at 837-0033.

The Valley of Flowers Festival starts on Friday, May 3, and ends on Sunday, May 5. The parade will step off at 1:45 on Sunday from the Eagan Center. The crowning of the Queen and Court will take place at the Knights of Columbus grounds near the Old St. ferdinand Shrine immediately after the parade. The Knights Grounds will then be open until 8 p.m. on Sunday night.
